For the sake of the environment

We try to minimize our environmental footprint in every stage of production: from raw materials to packaging. However, our commitment is not limited to production, we focus on all small things surrounding us every day (compostable packaging, co-generator, eco-friendly technology hub, higher energy efficiency through photovoltaic system, LCA analysis, water footprint, hybrid or electric car fleet, Social and Environmental Report, sustainable gadgets). Zero waste is our philosophy.

Materie prime selezionate

Raw materials? Only the ones you would choose.

Our ingredients come from selected supply chains, preferably local ones, as we increasingly purchase from small local producers and organic products. Our pasta is made using Italian durum wheat, fresh eggs from Italian free-range hens… and nothing more. For fillings and sauces we prefer fresh Italian vegetables, Italian cheeses, meat from sustainable farms, fish. Rice we use in Risidoro is local and comes from Risi & Rane Rural District.

Traceless Packaging

We have invested in innovation to minimize our footprint by eliminating plastic from all packaging: all Zini packaging can now be disposed of in the organic bin without leaving a trace.

Zini has been the first company in the frozen industry to study compostable packaging that can resist and have high performances at low temperatures. This study has turned into reality: after a successful pilot project, all Zini products are now contained in biodegradable packaging.

In chemical terms, this new material is composed of aliphatic-aromatic polyesters that are completely compostable and biodegradable and have mechanical properties that are similar to those of traditional plastics, namely polyethylene. This packaging has been specifically designed for frozen products and contains mixtures of biopolymers derived from fossil sources and renewable vegetable sources (corn starch). The film does not contain any traces of GMOs.

Sustainability of this material is ensured throughout packaging production, including packaging moulding, through the use of paints complying with requirements of compostability in terms of characteristics and methods of use.

Water footprint

About

Water footprint is the total volume of water used and polluted throughout the production process.

Zini Footprint

Zini cooking procedure before freezing allows achieving 95% water saving*.

The Challenge

Zini future challenge is to further improve results, aimed at achieving 10% water use reduction in industrial processing.
